A summer program that increases musicianship, builds self-confidence, and gives teens from all over the Hudson Valley an opportunity to perform for a live audience.

Be grouped with other ROCKERS YOUR AGE who have SIMILAR MUSICAL INTERESTS. Be REHEARSED AS A BAND by a professional and EXPERIENCED MUSICIAN. See what it's like to play ROCK 'N' ROLL in a PREMIER VENUE with a LIVE AUDIENCE.

ALL SESSIONS: Each two week session runs daily from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00p.m. Student should bring lunch and/or snacks or money to purchase a meal at our cafe!
Rock Camp will be held at the NYSM location in Walden, NY.
Concerts will be at 12 p.m. (noon)
Session times:
Session 1: Monday July 1st – Friday July 12th Final Concert July 13th
Session 2: Monday July 15th – Friday July 26th Final Concert Jul 27th
Session 3: Monday July 29th – Friday August 9th Final Concert August 10th
Session 4: Monday August 12th – Friday August 23rd Final Concert August 24th

Rock Camp Requirements:
Guitar:
> Play E form and A form bar chords
> Know all names of notes on 5th and 6th strings
> Know all open chord forms
> Can demonstrate an ability to play in time by playing any song they know
Bass:
> Know the names of the notes on the fret board
> Can demonstrate an ability to play in time by playing any song they know
Vocals:
> Sing in tune
> Sing from the diaphragm
> Be outgoing
> Should be prepared to sing rock music and understand that this
NOTE: Camp is geared solely towards current and classic rock, pop, blues and folk music and not soft-pop or country.
Drums:
> Play a "four on the floor" beat with snare on 2 and 4, as well as quarter and eighth notes on high hat
> Play rock beat with kick on 1 and 3 and snare and high hat the same as above
> Be able to fill out of a phrase and land in time
> Can demonstrate an ability to play in time by playing any song they know
*BONUS!! Be able to play a swing shuffle
Keyboards:
> Be able to read simple chord charts
> Can demonstrate an ability to play in time by playing any song they know
Other Instruments:
If you are interested in playing rock 'n' roll on an instrument OTHER than those listed above, please call our front desk to discuss possibilities with us. We are always looking for new talent, so don't be shy!
Drums and PA system will be available at the school.
All other instruments must be supplied by the student!!
Students not currently enrolled in lessons at the New York School of Music will be required to audition. Call the New York School of Music at (845) 778-7594 to set up an audition time.
