Edie has been an elementary music teacher in the Wallkill Central School Dist. since 1989. She currently teaches a district-wide early morning string
program, general/vocal music at Plattekill Elementary and is also the enrichment liaison for that school. She received her BS in Music Education from
Penn State University (1985) with dual concentrations in instrumental and elementary classroom music, an MS from Long Island University in
education/educational technology (1990). Orff levels I, II, and III certifications from UNLV with Randy Delelles and Jeff Kriske and Master Class
training with Jos Wuytag at the University of Memphis. She had recently completed Kindermusik University and took Technology in Music Ed level I training
through Salem University. She prefers to study Spanish abroad, hoping to help spread Orff Schulwerk through Central America.
She was active in the drum corps community as a performer and instructor, having performed with the Crossmen, NY Skyliners, and Hawthorne Caballeros
(guard and percussion.) She also taught the bell line of the Queens Village Queens, and pit percussion of Capital Brass. She taught both music and
guard in the Pocono Mtn. and Mahopac School Districts and has worked with the Valley Central guard in the past.
She has presented teacher training workshops through UCMEA, OCMEA and is an active judge for marching band, serving as the Band Coordinator for
Metropolitan American Adjudicators/ Eastern Marching Band Associates for 6 years. She has also adjudicated music/visual/percussion/ guards for NJMEA
and CIPA and the NYC St. Patrick's Parade. In the spring, weekends are spent as a string adjudicator for NYSSMA.
She has chaired many UCMEA county events, with a perpetual (as of now, 14 year) stint as general chair for the Young Elementary Music Symposium.
She became a string instructor at the NY School of Music about 9 years ago, when her husband, seeking guitar lessons, volunteered her for the position.
Pedagogically, she follows a combination of rote and reading (symbolic to traditional), following the style of Orff. She received the instructor
of the year award in 2005, and has been named in the 2002 and 2005 editions of "Who’s Who Among American Teachers." Going under the business name
of "Yee-Haw Music," Edie knows her purpose on earth is to provide education and amusement for children, but does play recreationally and
professionally. She is currently enjoying performing on electric violin/keyboard with local band "Inner Monologue."
